Going through the military records for my gg-grandfather's company, I wondered why only a few people had descriptive cards and no one had any hospital records.

Well, yesterday, I found them! For some reason the NARA had them all under 'Miscellaneous' rather as part of the soldiers' military records.

So I highly recommend, even if you've looked at your ancestors' military records, that you go to Footnote.com and check under the 'Miscellaneous' files. It was a treasure trove for me.

Funny, but my gg-grandfather seems to have shrunk 3 inches between his Confederate and his Union service. :laugh1:

Khalleron,

Perhaps carrying too much stuff in his knapsack and by time he joined the Union he was 3 inches shorter.

Might have had a layer of mud or stuff on his boots when they measured him in the Confederate Army...the measuring stick was missing three inches...never know :o

That might explain the shortening, but he was also 10 years younger when he joined the Union Army than when he left the Confederacy.

That was one pliable soldier.
