Hello all. I joined this forum a few months back. My Great Great Grandpa Marcelin Lemoine served in Boones Battery, 2nd Louisiana Light Artillery, C. S. A. A few years back we found his final resting place. Soon after I joined the forum I began having login problems. Long story short, with the help of my Son today, i am back up and running. Once i logged in I saw replies by several members Re: my Grandpa, one in particular being that he was an "interesting individual" because it appeared my Grandpa may have belonged to two different units. I recall a reply by member "unionblue" as well as other members (cannot recall their names) welcoming me to the group, but i cannot seem to find them now.

Would someone be so kind as to notify member unionblue that i am trying to make contact? Thanks.

Stumpjumper,

Here I am. Do you need something from me?

Sincerely,
Unionblue
Good morning unionblue and thx for your response. I remember a reply from you a while back about my intial post here Re: my Great Great Grandpa Marcelin Lemoine and his service to Boones Battery 2nd Louisiana Light Artillery, C.S.A. For some reason i was having login problems to the forum of which with the help of my Son yesterday, was corrected. In trying to reach out to someone in the forum for help, i remembered your forum name. Looks like i am up and running again and looking forward to learning as much as possible about my Grandpa and his service to the cause. I have in my possession a diary he kept citing everyday life after the war, no mention of the war itself. I have been told near wars end he was a POW. He made entries citing his childrens birth dates, names, and included their "maraine/paraines" (Godmother/Godfathers) names as well, all in French/Creole tongue of course. He also made entries citing trade with others in the community, such as, "traded two bushels corn for one pair of shoes to Evariste Rabalais". He had a beautiful handwriting. His earliest entry cites the birth year of his oldest daughter, Eugenie Lemoine, year 1847, well before the war began. A yellowed piece of paper was found with his diary translating his entries to English. His actual death announcement card was also included stating, Marcelin Lemoine, Died Nov. 6 1917. We found his final resting place in a large cemetary in Plaucheville La. There are several Confederate Soldiers buried there. I have a picture of his headstone. There is an emblem at the top, of which I am told by a local Civil War buff, to be the Southern Cross Of Honor. WOW. Look at me, so proud of him, my ancestor. Forgive me for being so long winded. Going search the forum now beings i have been reconnected. Thx for your response.

YES-------Thats my Great Great Grandpa and Grandma-------Thank you for posting this. I do have pics of their final resting place but do not know how to post. I have a diary Grandpa kept that obviously began before the war because in it he recorded the names and birth year of his children, the first entry being Eugenie Lemoine, 1847. Thx again, i will be back. I'm 'mo excited than a blood tick in a hound dawgs ear on a cold winter morning.--(:-)--

Drew--Thank you. I am feeling at home already.

There were several (8 or 9) Lemoines in Boone's Battery, all from Avoyelles Parish. Here's the MSR file for Marcelin:

These are from the Confederate Service Record files at fold3.com
Not much information, I'm afraid beyond that he surrendered at N.O. in May 1865. No record of his enlistment and he doesn't appear on any surviving muster roll. Sadly, surviving Confederate records are very fragmentary.

ETA: here are the Record of Events cards for Boone's Battery:
