Help with photo identification

Requesting help with any info about the male, including possible uniform, in this ambrotype photograph. There are no visible markings. Thank you.

There's maddingly too little to go by, other than that he's obviously a soldier to anyone who knows what uniforms really looked like. I'll add that the spacing of the very large buttons indicate he's probably wearing a regulation Federal frock coat over his military-style vest, both worn "fashionably" open.

I was also thinking similar for the uniform style with a possibility of Richmond gray.
