Hi All,
I have no idea what this is. Stamped brass front, filled metal back. First thought the back was lead, but it was covered in rust.
As you can see the raised center in the back has a channel that runs completely through it. Cavalry rosette? Supposedly dug at Fredericksburg. About 2 inches in diameter. Thank you Jonl51.

Thats what it looks like but most I have seen had a lead filled back. Looks like someone nicked it with a shovel digging it. Believe me I know what that looks like.

It maybe is lead although it seems harder. I wasn't expecting lead to be heavily rusted, but perhaps that happens? These pictures are after I cleaned it up with oil and a brass brush. The back was very corroded. Thank you! Jonl51

At one time it was gold gilded.

Now that's interesting. Any speculation on which side this may have belonged to? Would you expect it belonged to a cavalry officer? Thanks for your insights!
Can't say but its not yankee, but you have to remember that everyone had a horse and if you had money you had nice stuff for your horse. It depends on where and what else was found around it.

Hi, have recently bought this bullet found at Gettysburg, but wasn't sure what type of ammunition it is? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The photo is a little fuzzy plus a photo of the base would be helpful but it looks like it may be a Burnside carbine bullet,
