Alright I've shown everyone I know and no one can help at the end so I'll ask maybe one of you who has ready many legible and illegible civil war reports.

What I've got so far "also at Brown's Ferry near Chattanooga Tenn in a (Force??) ?? ?? ?? Oct. 27/63
I think at the line break is a hyphenated word.

In a June skir-mish (skirmish)
Not sure about June - It would help to see more of the handwriting to know how this person formed their letters. The F in Ferry does not match the first letter of the word before skirmish.

The latter action is called the battle of Brown's Ferry, which was engaged on October 27, 1863...

Aaron, my 2 cents, it looks like "severe" skirmish to me.

Definitely skirmish - I'm not sure about the preceding word. I agree with @Reconstructed Rebel that it would help to see more of the handwriting.

"severe skirmish" is the way I read it.
