Hi everyone!! I found my very first civil war picture. I bought at a thrift store and would love to identify if possible. When I opened the picture behind it, there was another picture and think it may be soldier's child, not sure.

Pretty certain this is post war, maybe even early 1900's. I know the crossed rifles insignia was only used after the ACW and his haircut is definitely not ACW era. Looks like some sort of militia or cadet uniform.... maybe a Citadel cadet.

South Carolina; State National Guard... circa 1900-1910ish
Subject is wearing an 1895 "Undress Coat"... This was rather plain as compared to the "Full Dress" coat that had all the fancy buttons, trimmings etc... Both were in use during the time frame...
Here is a similar image of an identified Missouri State National Guard subject wearing the same style coat... with branch insignia and "MO" on the collar... (dated 1911) If regular army it would have had "US" instead...
