Hello,

I am writing to ask if you could help identify this button I found while metal detecting the yard of an old 1838 homestead in S.E. Indiana.

This 2 piece button is 24mm across and the motif on the front consists of a leafy branch with what looks to be a fruit, a nut or a hornets nest hanging from the end. The leaves are so stylized that I can't dicern what type of tree or plant it represents. The back has a manufacturer's name which I can't make out due to the sediment and oxidation built up around the letters. I didn't want to risk cleaning it and possibly destroying the lettering. The manufacturer's name is surrounded by 2 fine concentric rings above the name and 2 fine concentric rings below the name. The small brass shank is 5mm wide and appears to be soldered or heat fused to the button back.

Thank you,
Robert Schott
