I'm a retired Microsoft employee with a continuing interest in software and Web development, as well as an interest in the Battle of Gettysburg. That combination led me to try to develop a JavaScript-based map of the battle - an animated map that would show the various units moving along the historically-correct paths at the correct times, in order to get a better feel for what really happened.
I'm trying to follow a traditional path for developing this animated map, started with a proof of concept release, then an alpha release. I'm now working on the beta. Along the way I realized that if I can map a brigade's progress against the clock, that shows me where the brigade was at any given minute. So I can produce a table showing the time when each brigade was involved in some event - like leaving Emmitsburg road and going cross country to support Buford's brigade.
