I'm reading a contemporary book on haunted hospitals and nursing homes.

However, it got me thinking about Civil War hospitals - which I know most were, informally, the homes and barns of the citizenry.

Does anyone know of a building, still standing, that was a real hospital and is STILL a hospital or admin building during the Civil War? I'm also thinking of Gettysburg Seminary. Do we know if they are were or are still haunted?

What about the closed Veteran homes in the North and South when they closed in the 1930s. Are they still around and occupied? Are they haunted?

As you state- most wartime hospitals were local homes.
At Perryville Ky, there is the Dye house.

Several years ago, my wife and I attended a ghost walk which included the Dye house. There are many ghost accounts associated.

We did see the blood stained floorboards- and watched as others tried to communicate via "spirit boxes".

I experienced no ghostly phenomenon….. but those floorboards were haunting enough.

I don't know of any. There are plenty still standing that were hospitals.

Pry House at Antietam.

St. Paul Episcopal Church, Sharpsburg MD.

Thank you! @Gary Morgan. I knew there was a very good one about the blood on the floor but I didn't know who and where that happened.

I've been in the Pry House several times and in the room Richardson died in but I've never felt anything while in the house.

At Burnside Bridge, what I HAVE felt, and it seems weird in such a place that had so much violence, is a transcendent peace. My niece and I once stayed there for 30 minutes, facing upstream in the Spring sunshine and warmth, and watch these birds dip into the water and dart back to their nests. We didn't even WANT to speak. It was like some sort of spell was upon us. I can't explain it and don't know what it was but overwhelming peace. And no one else was around the time we were there, but to both us, we both felt we had experienced "something."

If anyone has any ideas what it was we felt, I'd certainly appreciate your opinions.

Add James N. and @mkyzzzrdet if we can meet in Gettysburg together, we could do the real ghost tour!
I have dragged James along on numerous ghost tours on the many trips we have taken together. He is more open-minded than he used to be on the subject. Besides, it was usually me insisting on going on the tour and paying for the tickets! 🤣 I am always wanting to return to Gettysburg. Our favorite place to stay is the Battlefield Bed and Breakfast. (It's haunted, too, although James and I never see anything). James and I joke that we are both about as psychic as a pair of old doorknobs.

The Lotz house in Franklin is said to be haunted. The people in the gift shop told me the night time residents leave things strewn around sometimes to be cleaned up in the morning. However, that is not a hospital. Carnton, which is, is said to be haunted. When I was there in 2016 they were not playing it up. There are bloodstains on the floor in the room were surgeons where operating. You can still see them. I've read about people being scared off from seeing people in the windows at night. Ghost tours in Franklin would be something to check out on the Muster this year.

I went on a ghost tour in Gettysburg from one of the places on Steinwehr Ave. That whole street was really part of the battlefield. Experts can correct me if I'm wrong. We didn't see anything but there are all kinds of haunted places out there across from the National Cemetery. Even the newer hotels are supposed to be haunted. I enjoyed the stories and they encouraged us to take photos of the windows in case something would manifest.
I toured the Jenny Wade House by myself because of COVID. Not a peep. I have the same psychic abilities as you guys.
I've been on a tour at the Tinker Cottage in Rockford, IL where you sit and listen to people's equipment try to capture ghosts. The ghosts don't have much to say except "get out" usually. It's a lot of sitting around in the dark. I prefer the tours where they tell stories of the history of the site and people's experiences.
I loved Gettysburg. I really felt a heaviness at the battlefield that I've never felt before. That was unusual for me. I hope to get back there sooner rather than later.

I'm a dud with EVPs. Seldom, even in the Mark Nesbit video can I even make out ANYTHING! When they all say, "didn't you hear Mississippi?" Nope, not even close for me. And any other EVPs from anywhere.

My analytical side always says (though I do believe and have had my own experience when I wasn't remotely looking), why not ask for full name and regiment, etc? If you get that and can place a person, then you are really onto something. Sigh….

I'm with you. I can never understand the EVPs either. I've seen Utube videos of Gettysburg Devil's Den area where the investigators do ask them ( the voices) their regiment. It's very hard to hear anything with all the static. I don't have patience for it. I believe too, but I'm glad I'm not sensitive to it.

We have a group in this area called Society for Anomalous Studies. I went to a presentation they gave at the Janesville WI Library a few years ago. They had all their evidence compiled in a video with what we were supposed to be looking at circled. And they "translated" the EVPs. They have investigated many local locations and some of their videos are scary. There is a location they wont go back to.

I'm going to start giving tours at the Lincoln Tallman House in Janesville WI in the spring. The director told me they are working with that group for their Halloween event. The paranormal is a guaranteed draw for the house museums. I'm looking forward to it!
