War Service April 1861 Capt. in 14th Indiana, served in West Virginia, Maj. Lt. Col., April 1862 Col., Antietam, November 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 1st Bde/2nd Divn/II Corps at Gettysburg, Mine Run, commanded 4th Divn/XV Corps in Atlanta campaign, had no assignments after September 1864, resigned April 1865.
