This was my first time here. Growing up in Md, I can't believe I never visited. My wife, son, and I visited a few weeks back. I really recommend it.
Machinery Used for Muskets
This was cool to see as I just began collecting small arms last year. Lots of mini-museums in the National Historical Park.
Wall Around Armory
This runs along the river by the site where the armory stood. Here's a shot of one of the CW era rings used to secure pontoon bridges.
Side Trip to Martinsburg
We came upon this cool marker. According to HMDB, "drunken Union soldiers burst intothe Boyd home on July 4, 1861, to raise the U. S. flag over the house. One of the soldiers insulted her mother and Miss Boyd killed him with a pistol. A Federal Board of Inquiry exonerated her. Belle Boyd later spied for the Confederacy and delivered secret correspondence from Confederate President Jefferson Davis to the English Prime Minister."
Maryland Heights Trail.
Here's a picture from the overlook on the trail- crowded but awesome. CW earthworks can be seen on the way up.
You know this stuff.
Some other pics. I always like taking pictures of cannons.
