This is a Bannerman's Civil War surplus Hardee hat. This was an original Union hat
from the Civil War that was never used. Later the original brass parts, and others were applied to
make it more appealing and this one was sold back in the 1940s. These are
wonderful and original, but never used. I have had this one looked at by experts and is
as I have stated.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing the photo @relichound . Amazing that it has survived 150 years and is in such pristine condition. You are very lucky to have it and we are very lucky that you are willing to share the picture with us. Thanks again.

That's awesome. I want to get a new one for reenacting sometime soon.
My reproduction has been badly shaped. If I do can you send me some close ups on the stitching & sweatband?

Nice hat. I am guessing the oil cloth label has gold writing and eagle? The color looks green on yours but assuming it is from the camera? I have one that the oil cloth label is half gone and can barely see the writing. Thanks for showing relichound.

You know, when I bought that hat...I knew very little about genuine CW hats or uniforms,
because I was into CDV photos and tintypes and ambrotypes, and yes some into excavated relics.
But I talked to some guys who saw the hat and held it, and they all gave me a glowing report
of it. Any credit for buying this hat belongs to them not to me. Thanks to all.

And by the way, many people do not like Bannerman sold items because they were never
used in the war, and so they suffer some when they are appraised. I can understand that.
