Tomorrow be St. Patrick's Day. So thought post some trivia on the day.
St. Patrick was born in Britain as Maewyn Succat. He was kidnapped about AD 400 when he was 16 and carried off to Ireland. He was a slave and worked as a shepherd. After 6 years he escaped and returned home. He received his call to preach the gospel in a dream. He spent about 15 years in a monastery preparing for his missionary work. When he became a priest his name was changed to Patricius which became Patrick. Patrick returned to Ireland and spread Christianity throughout the land and brought an organized church into existence.
As to foods, Cabbage seeds are often planted today and old time farmers believe to make them grow, you need to plant them while wearing your nightclothes.
Another recipe for Irish Soda Bread is one from my Aunt Dorothy. She was Irish. This one she put together in about early 1950's based on one from her Mother.
Irish Soda Bread
1 small box Bisquick (about 2.5 cups)
1.2 box Muscat seeded raisins
Add milk to Bisquick dough (about a cup)
1/2 cup sugar
2 egg yolks
Beat egg whites and fold in
Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees. She used a 10 inch tube pan.
It was delicious and much enjoyed by the family.
Have a Happy St. Patrick's Day and don't forget to wear green.
