I have always thought that having the new year start in September makes much more sense than in January. Have a good one, everyone!

For those following the Civil War day-by-day, the Rosh HaShanah dates during the war
1861 (5622): Sept. 5
1862 (5623) Sept. 25
1863 (5624) Sept. 14
1864: (5625)Oct. 1
For Yom Kippur add 10 days. Kind of looks like the armies managed to avoid major actions on the Jewish high holidays - funny coincidence.

You know, I always thought that it was rather shocking that Lincoln went to the theatre on Good Friday. When I was growing up and even today, Good Friday is a holiday. In Toronto the Good, the theatre would not likely have been open!
He should have gone to Church!:giggle:

A good article I found on Jewish New Years and the Civil War is "September 1861 Observances of the Jewish New Year in Washington". It is in blog Civil War Washington D.C.

The link did not print all the way so have this much:

I don't know if that will come up. However, goggle the title "September 1861 Observance of the Jewish New Year in Washington".
