Happy Labor Day

It used to be a GREAT day, parades everywhere, workers from milkmen, waitresses, mailmen, steelworkers, factory workers- all of them marching in parades in cities, towns and places with mere crossroads all over America.

There is a new focus on ' labor'. Skilled workers are very much needed, schools developing curriculum concentrating again on well-paid blue collar jobs, not so much on 4 year degrees which pay little and leave graduates with no employment. Unskilled labor jobs are being newly advertised also, no one can take them without more security, hence the new focus on this work force. Be great to see these parades again- who knows?

An awful lot of these are unlisted as to where- perhaps it's better that way? A super cross-section of our country at its best. Cities, small and large towns, crossroads, another holiday unique to our country. Thank you to all whose work and determination culminated in these and future parades.

Happy Labor Day all from New Zealand

Do they celebrate a day for the workers in NZ? May Day perhaps?

When I was young my dad's union would rent out the local amusement park and have a labor day rally. The union gave out all the free hotdogs and pop one cared to eat and drink. Does anyone see any issue with young children getting all the hotdogs and pop they can stuff into their bellies and then go on moving rides? I have some great memories and some that are not that great. My mom giving me several Alka seltzer and a half of bottle of Pepo-bismol and me eating more free hotdogs and drinking more pop, then me going on more rides did not turn out well at all.

Not enough parades anymore

I know, right? For anything! Even the Thanksgiving Day parade is in danger of not being watched any longer- you turn it on, instead of watching a PARADE go by- like we used to Thanksgiving morning, remember? NOW what we get is a series of shows stopping to perform in front of cameras, moving on, then another song and dance. I'm sure it's all very nice, great performers, worthy shows- but honestly do not WANT to see that!! Tuning in, like the man standing on the street with his boy on his shoulders, to watch the parade go by, right? Please, please would one of the networks just, plain give us the parade back?

Used to love Memorial Day parades, people sitting by the streets hours ahead of time, ( with a cooler )claiming a spot. End up at the cemetery for speeches folks listened to, too. It was nice.
