In this 1913 photograph from the 50th anniversary at Gettysburg, the view is south on Hancock Avenue looking past the Copse of Trees. This interesting image includes a tourist intently listening to a Union veteran seated near Andrews' Sharpshooters monument. The carriage of tourists turning onto Webb Avenue apparently stopped in order to be included in the photograph. Notice the ammuniton stacks next to the cannon that are no longer there in my now photo, but the pads they sat on remain. The photographer was apparently elevated on a tower or possibly the back of a wagon when this plate was exposed while my modern photo was shot at ground level.

Wow! Those are some great photos. You can almost imagine the spirit of that veteran still sitting in that same spot in the more recent picture.
