Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 1stDivn at New Madrid and Island No 10, commanded 3rd Divn in advance on Corinth, contracted malaria and went on sick leave, September 1862 promoted Maj. Gen. of Volunteers, resigned for health reasons February 1863.
