Halloween was not as widely celebrated during the Civil War as it is today, although some news articles from that time describe rituals, ghosts, zombies, and pranks on the night before All Saint's Day, or All Hallows' Eve. This cartoon published in Harper's Weekly on October 26, 1861, depicts a zombie-looking, grim reaper Jefferson Davis. What do you think the comic's intention was?
