Hello friends. Im thankfull to be at home, enjoying a pipe of fine tobacco, and here on CWT. Earlier my friend and I loaded up the jeep and stuck out for a afternoon bow fishing trip. For those of you who dont know, bow fishing is the act of fishing, with a bow and arrow. The arrow is connected to a line, and the line is fixed to a reel, similar to a fishing pole reel. You fond the fish, shoot the arrow and reel it in...Anywhoo, we had been having a good time when I decided to walk down a little further on the side of the bank, while i was walking on the hill side, I slipped and fell into the river and began to go under. I tried to swim but the current was too much. My friend ran to the rescue and held out his bow, I grabbed onto his bow and he pulled me back up..I do believe if he hadnt been as fast or as quick thinking,I wouldnt be here tonight writing this. I destroyed my Iphone,my wallet is soaked and my leg is cut pretty bad, apparantly from glass on the bank, but im here breathing and typing. I have lived to fight another day boys!!

Half my mom's relatives' death certificates say 'drowned in the river'. I'm glad you didn't follow suit! There's few places along it where you don't get pulled under and most of them look just fine. My kid went up back of Beaver Creek here just riding - it's getting hot but he got stuck in a snow bank for 12 hours. Like to froze to death - he'd taken the blankets and stuff like that out of the truck because he'd gone to get Auntie Vi's groceries earlier. But he came back! Got a cold now but he came back and is sitting on the porch eating tacos!

As hot as

it is here in Tennessee,it would be nice to see some snow

Glad you are OK and not "Sleeping with the fishes" my friend.

Seems like we get these lessons from time to time not to take anything for granted.

Glad you passed.

Sincerely,
Unionblue
Yes sir,we learn the greatest lessons by personal experiance. And i have learned my lesson... Dont go bowfishing wearing flipflops...

Geeze we use poles to go fishing in NY, not jump in and try to catch them by mouth
you aint never heard of juggin? Or grabblin? Here in Tennessee,we come up with plenty of ways to bring home some catfish... the plus side to this misadventure,is this time when my buddy sayes he pulled up a 6'4, 250 pound monster out of the river, he wont be lieing!

Glad the river didn't claim you. One of my ggg or gggg grandfathers met his end in the Ohio river.

Haven't tried bow fishing yet although I've been considering it with my fishing kayak. There are some large non-game fish (primarily invasive carp) that I would like to take a shot at when the other fishing slows down.

J P, next time you go take one of these. just don't punch a hole in it with the arrow. Ted

we have alot of buffalo carp and aligator gar we shoot. No good for nothing but we have fun

You've got to be careful Lt. Jpf! From the looks of the thread Ole closed down, us Forrest suppoprter are outnumbered but not outgunned. Seriously, I'm glad you are OK with only cuts and bruises.

I'm glad you are ok. Centuries ago I used to teach water safety courses for the Red Cross. Absolutely never swim against the current, you will never win. Always swim with the current, downstream and gradually work your way to shore. Even then, rocks and semi-submerged stuff can batter you to death. You are very lucky.

Some rivers are even nastier, which is why nobody swims in this one. People can go wading out in a quiet, still fishing hole and just disappear, never to surface again until somewhere down the coast!

Donna is sure right about tending cuts got in rivers or ponds. There are some ugly cooties who make bad, bad trouble!

glad you made it ok...never tried that bow fishing stuff..bet it's fun. This makes my 4 yr anniversary of a near drowning by canoe accident. Yes it was a stupid idea anyway, it was high water but a great challenge...
