Gunpowder Tea

Saw a social-media reference to Robert Lincoln buying "gunpowder tea." My first thought was, why would anyone think this is a good idea? Then I looked it up and found it's not what it sounds like. Thank goodness.

People still drink it today, too:

This is a new one for me,worth trying I believe.

I keep some around. It was popular in the US from the 1730 til well past the War. It certainly isn't my favorite, but it is good.

I haven't tried gunpowder tea, but am a fan of Lapsang Souchong, which is bizarre enough on its own.

I carry my ready use BP breech load cartridges in Gunpowder Tea tins just because I have them.
