MS Grave !

this is a grave site from our lease outside of Vicksburg!

That's a decent headstone for this soldier.

Apparently Pvte. William Harris was severely wounded in the arm at Gaines' Mill, VA, on June 27, '62, and his limb was amputated on July 12, 1862. He was permanently disabled and died in June, 1864. (See link below).

Notwithstanding the headstone unit description, thought he may have initially enlisted in the 2nd. Battalion, Mississippi Infantry, which was organized in Jackson, MS, during the summer of 1861. This unit, that included men from Warren County (where Harris enlisted), formed the nucleus of the 48th. Mississippi Infantry, organized in Nov. '62 at Fredericksburg, VA. (If he was wounded fighting at Gaines' Mill, the 48th. Mississippi did not exist at this time).

Sorry guys yes it's Flowers hill cemetery and there are about 50 headstones but I think he is the only soldier there.
