This one about Thomas is pretty good. I've never read a biography of Rosecrans.

I am a huge fan of George H. Thomas and I have read: "Rock of Chickamauga"- by Freeman Cleaves; "George Henry Thomas - As True as Steel" by Brian Steel Wills; and "General George H. Thomas" by Robert P. Broadwater, but when someone on this site recommended "Education in Violence" (The Life of George H. Thomas and the History of the Army of the Cumberland) by Francis F. McKinney, I am glad I heeded the advice and read the book. It's an education and great read and gives a more balanced view of General Thomas.

If you can find it Indomitable Warrior by Wilbur Thomas also is good. The Bobrick book which is controversial to some also should be read at some point. There is a Cspan lecture on line by Bobrick on his Thomas book which will give an overview of its main points.

Another splendid biography of Thomas is entitled: "George Thomas: Virginian for the Union" by Christopher J. Einolf. This is volume 13 in the Campaigns and Commanders Series. Einolf is a professor at the University of Richmond. I have not read this book but it is highly recommended by Wiley Sword and James McPherson. David.
