Ginger Candy Recipe

Boil a pound of clarified sugar until, upon taking out a drop of it on a piece of stick, it will become brittle when cold. Mix and stir up with it, for a common article, about a teaspoonful of ground ginger; if for a superior article, instead of ground ginger add half of an egg, beaten up previously with fine sifted loaf sugar, and twenty drops of strong essence of ginger.

Piece of stick??? Got to love these old recipes. Anything with ginger is good, even on a stick.:bounce:

There's a little candy shop here sells hard ginger candies - sounds like this recipe. They are hot and very good! I sometimes use them like cough drops - ginger tends to warm up the throat.

There is a company down in the Carolinas call Blendheim that makes hot Ginger Ale. One mild and one hot enough to make ones ears smoke!
I get a couple of cartons now and then to sip on. I won't drink a whole lot at one time! :frantic::hot:
