I was reading the book CIVIL WAR GHOSTS AND LEGENDS, and I thought it was really cool. I'd like to hear some stories from all of you. Feel free to have some fun posting historical and/or personal stories of stuff that happened in history, or that you personally witnessed while visiting a Civil War Battlefield.

Also feel free to post information about weird/strange things that you've heard rumors about, or local legends that not many people have heard before. Haunted house stories are welcome too!

Just try to keep everything Civil War Oriented!

My buddy and I were setting at our camp at Fort Pillow,it was around 11:00pm. We decided we would take a night walk up to the old fort... On the way we were laughing talking and just having a good time. After what seemed like miles, we finnaly approached the left entrance to the fort, we walked in and moved to the middle of the fort.. We observed the cannons and planned to walk around the front of the fort.. As approaching the right entrance we heard a moan, we were both thinking it was an owl, then all of a sudden a faint drum beat... We then decided to get back to camp, we got half way across the fort when the temp droped.. We were sweating after walking all that way in our confederate wools, and when that temp dropped every hair on my body was standing.. I had chills even on my legs!! As we aproaced the left entance to leave the chills got worse.. As soon as we were out of the fort every thing was ok... We decided to take a service road back to camp, figured it would get us back quicker.. While walking we heard a distinct sound all reenactors recognize.. The sound of brogans walking on gravel.. But every time we would look behind us it was gone... When we got back to camp we didnt murmer a word.. We just went to our tents and got some shut eye. We tool the historical tour the next day.. Were we heard the moans were were the house was burned with all the dead and wounded soldiers inside, were we heard the drum was were forrests men marched up the hill to the fort, and were we got the chills on the left hand side was were most of the lives were lost all those years ago.. And that service road is were the sharpshooters were positioned.. Im sure those footsteps belonged to an unsuspecting soldier who didnt know what hit him...

I was at Gettysburg for my birrthday a couple years ago, it was about 2130, my buddy and I were trying out a new camera. Devil's Den and Little Round Top were crowded, and after a while in The Wheatfield, we decided to go to the area of the Copse of Trees. We were the only two people there...I took the picture and my buddy was in a tshirt and shorts. I saw something amiss in the screen on my camera after this was taken, but it wasn't until I got home and downloaded this into my computer that I was able to see what was in the screen. Look at the middle of the picture, make your own judgement.

My mom claims that she saw a "Confederate ghost" around Little Round Top/Devils Den back when we were there when I was a kid in the 8Os . I saw nothing, but she was convinced b/c she thought it was a reenactor!.. She said, Look down there at that guy who's dressed as a Confederate! When I did, no one was there. My dad and I thought she was nuts, but she described the basic height, look of his hair, etc. ...........who knows?

If you look close, you can see the light blue of the pants, dark blue of the coat, possibly cavalry boots and i swear i can see a rifle.. Thats a nice pic!

it freaked me out when I saw it in the little screen on my camera, and I am a sceptic but cannot explain this pic

"What you are about to see is a matter of human record. Explain it: we cannot. Disprove it: we cannot. We simply invite you to explore with us the amazing world of the Unknown ... to take that One Step ... Beyond."
John Newland, host of the 1960's TV program One Step Beyond

that's cool....I saw the same thing right away as others here have mentioned....I think you got one..
