According to Gettysburg licensed battlefield guide Ed Guy the inscription on the west side of the Irish Brigade monument states that the Irish Wolfhound is extinct. What's that all about?!?

The original Irish Wolfhound breed (such as the one featured on the monument)is in fact extinct, in the 1870's the few surviving purebred Irish Wolfhounds were crossbred with other breeds to create the canine version of the Irish Wolfhound that we know today.
