Gettysburg Mag July 2024 Issue

@eBrowne Not very knowledgeable about these computer matters myself but I think you can send her a personal message by clicking on the envelope icon in the upper right corner of the page that appears on your screen. That part of the screen has a stripe of dark blue and the envelope icon can be found there, just to the left of the little bell.

I hope this work out. I didn't realize all this for quite a long time myself. Good luck!

John

I just ran across this thread @eBrowne so you don't have to send me a PM. :D Thank you so much for your interest in "The Most Destructive Artillery Impact of the Battle of Gettysburg" in Issue #71 of Gettysburg Magazine.

I don't know the exact date Issue #71 of Gettysburg Magazine (summer issue) will be mailed, but based on recent developments, I believe it will be pretty soon. My maps are complete; the rough draft versions have been transferred to standardized format; and the maps are through the review and edit process. They look great!

I've made my own rough digital maps using earth view satellite, but this is the first time I have ever worked with a professional cartographer. @Tom Elmore taught me that you should always make your icons of the correct size, proportional to their regimental front on the ground, and relative to one another. Let me just say.... Boy! do those icons look different when they are placed on a base map with contour lines and war-time structures. :D

The maps were definitely a learning experience. I'm so glad that Hal Jespersen was assigned to make the maps for my article. He was incredibly patient and just as generous on the fifth set of revisions [:nah disagree:sorry Hal] as he was on the first. I'm sure he was probably mumbling under his breath. But he never said anything negative and never made me feel like an idiot for needing to move them -- again. I learned that in the future, to save the cartographer extra work, I should pay much more attention when placing the icons.

I promised Hal that if we worked on maps again, I would definitely do that. He said it was expected that there would be revisions and that he appreciated the attention to detail. It was a tedious process, but he said he would be pleased to work with me again and I think he meant it. Hal was a pleasure to work with and I'm incredibly honored to have his maps illustrate my first feature article.

As for other titles to be included in Issue #71, none of the authors really know the subjects of other articles. At least I don't. I am only privy to generalities. I do know that @JD-reb will have an article in issue #71. I've tagged him here so if he wishes to reveal the title and thesis, he can do so himself. Thank you again for your interest in the article. I hope you enjoy reading it.

As Laura mentioned I also have a feature article in the upcoming Issue #71 of Gettysburg Magazine. It is titled: "Brigadier General William Barksdale and His Mississippi Brigade At Gettysburg" and details the action on July 2nd at the Peach Orchard. Barksdale's attack has been described as "the most magnificent charge of the war". This article is derived from my recent definitive biography - William Barksdale, CSA: A Biography of the United States Congressman & Confederate Brigadier General.

Can someone share with me if the Gettysburg Magazine is presented in digital edition or print form? If print, how would an interested party such as myself go about becoming a yearly subscriber to the magazine? Thanks all!

There is info here about electronic subscriptions. The info seems confusing to me, but by searching this webpage you should be able to either subscribe to hard copies or to electronic copies.

I had a chance to pre-read this one and I can't recommend it enough! Extremely well-done! @JD-reb has written a concise, easy to understand, and engaging account of Barksdale's brigade at the Battle of Gettysburg. It is well illustrated with some great images and maps! Don't miss it!

My #71 arrived Saturday.

I just received Issue# 71 in my mail box today. There was no explanation for why the summer issue was delayed. However, I just finished Laura Elliott's article which I found informative and well researched.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words.
