Interesting that the news release covers a range of skills in providing oversight of all aspects of modern parks operation management, but does not mention any deep personal knowledge (or particular regard for) Civil War history.

We now live in the era of professional specialist managers and CEOs.

Nevertheless, the new appointee is wished all of the very best in carrying out this role.

I suppose decades of experience in working in and managing national parks is more difficult to come by than knowledge of a specific period in history on several levels. I feel we should be wary of what the author of the article felt was important and chose to include. Somehow I don't see getting a 100th birthday letter and using a recipe as being deep connections to the Eisenhower family worthy of inclusion in the article; but she's also in charge of the Eisenhower National Historic Site and I imagine they want to show that she's already connected to it on a certain level.

Like you, I wish her the best. It's a big job.

I think it was Chris Gwinn who said on Addressing Gettysburg that there had been some staff reductions. I wish her the best as well in a very challenging position.
