The Road Island state house has a cannon on display from a Road Island light artillery last used at the battle of Gettysburg. You will never believe it's story
On the 2nd day of the battle of Gettysburg a Road Island light artillery unit was loading there cannon when a rebel shell hit the cannons barrel. The cannonball was stuck and the cannon was unusable. 150 years later they discovered there was still gun powder in it so they were able to remove the gun powder without damaging the cannon.

It was Battery B 1st Rhode Island Battery of Artillery. And I think it was July 3rd at pickett's charge not July 2nd.
But still keep up that Civil War Knowledge.

The cannon was briefly captured on July 2 and was back in line for the barrage leading up to Pickett's Charge. This was the battery E.P. Alexander saw leaving the line, that prompted the You must come Quick note. The 2 soldiers killed by the Confederate shell that dented the cannon are buried in the Gettysburg National Cemetery. The gun returned to Gettysburg in 1988, The powder was handled in the 1960's after it was pointed out almost a 100 years after the loading.

I have heard a few stories about cannon ball getting stuck in barrels at Gettysburg. Do you happen to know where this Rhode Island regiment was fighting at the time of the incident?
