Hi,

My husband and I purchased the Gettysburg Map. It is now in Hanover, PA and is being restored. I ran across the thread "Gettysburg's Electrical Map" and just want to let everyone know that the map is being worked on. Things are moving slower than we had hoped. We have a facebook page that we use to give updates. It is https://www.facebook.com/pages/Gettysburg-Electric-Map-in-Hanover-PA/344643588963375

Not all of us do Facebook so I think updates here would also be appreciated.
I was there last May and saw one...I forget what building. I think it was in a corner building. Is it the same one?
I was pretty impressed with it although they kind of hurried us through. Good luck in the restoration.

Welcome to the forums - this is great news for those of us old enough to remember fondly the historical attractions of the 1960's Civil War Centennial! I also remember and love the old Confederama at Chattanooga and another, now long gone, that was once at Murfreesboro, Tenn. Last summer I saw the new Gettysburg Diorama and History Center and liked it too. Is yours the original built as part of the defunct and now demolished Gettysburg National Museum?

Edit: This Spring on a trip through the Shenandoah Valley I learned the electric map of Stonewall Jackson's Valley Campaign that was in Harrisonburg still exists, though it has also been moved from its original location to a nearby museum; unfortunately time constraints prevented me from revisiting it.

I used to volunteer at the new VC and someone would ask about the electric map every time I was there. I understand how much is involved in restoring it and I hope you are able to see the project all the way through, however long it takes. People loved it.

Lol... gotta love the "My Hero and His" manikin... how funny! Makes you wonder if someone bought it and is having it restored...?

Welcome! My favorite part was when it was night and the lights dimmed and the little orange campfires lit up! I wish you the best in restoring it. New narration in its future? Or is it really too early to say?

Thank you Karen for preserving and restoring this historic artifact. I just love the Gettysburg Electric Map. I am an analog man at heart and no digital map can ever take it's place as far as I'm concerned!

From what I have heard, the town of Hanover is a difficult place to own or fix a building. My humble advice to anyone planning to purchase a building and/or have a business in Hanover, is to first hire a really good lawyer with experience in dealing with those issues and township officials, and have the lawyer involved in every step of the process. From what I have heard the township is super strict on permits and doing things according to their rules. The example that I heard is that in that township you are not even allowed to replace the rubber plunger/stopper in your own toilet without hiring a licensed professional plumber to do it.

"certificate of occupancy, file for inspections and obtain proper permits, according to citations filed with District Judge Dwayne Dubs.

Although the building, known as the Hanover Heritage and Conference Center, holds several businesses, the citations relate specifically to the area containing the map, according to Hanover fire chief and zoning officer Jan Cromer."

Sounds fishy. I'm sorry but it sounds like maybe what they failed to do was pay rent on the rent which was already being paid on the rent, which sounds like some kind of pyramid scheme parking ticket.

Are these the folks who shopped their flag exhibit around Pennsylvania, as in our state owned building? Anyone charge them rent?
