Documentary is a depiction of reality. This one has a lot of fiction (aka the "battle scenes") woven in. The discussion of the battle is great. The drama is not.

No, no, no... Please, not again. This history channel offering was raked over the coals 4 years ago when it aired. It hasn't gotten any better.
The basic facts are there: big U.S. and no C.S. army fight in Pennsylvania. C.S. loses. The dramatized footage is terrible. No tactics; knots of men run about dramatically. Muskets are held to the wrong shoulder. The Iron Brigade uniforms are a farce. Hat brass that wouldn't exist for a dozen years... Frock coats that came from Planet 9. Then there's that cannon firing sequence. They spent all the budget on gory special effects and didn't have a penny for a decent historical consultant. If I remember correctly, that wasn't even filmed in the U.S., giving Gettysburg that weird semi-arid appearance. It doesn't look like that. I hate to be harsh, but I've set up scenes with old Marx toy soldiers that looked more like Gettysburg than this. Please, avert your eyes and run, don't walk towards the nearest exit.
