What a wonderful video, featuring some short clips of newsreels from the 50th and 75th anniversary Gettysburg commemorations. I'm still fascinated that veterans of that long-ago war lived long enough to be captured on film. I love the old vets shaking hands across the stone wall and giving us the Rebel Yell. For us reenactors, one of the old vets goes through part of the manual of arms, so there's an opportunity to learn from an actual Civil War vet. And then Shelby Foote starts narrating over images of these old men with the theme from "Gettysburg", and the whole thing becomes very moving. It's all very nicely done, and well worth your time if you haven't seen it.
"Who knows but again the old flags, ragged and torn, snapping in the wind, may face each other and flutter, pursuing and pursued, while the cries of victory fill a summer day? And after the battle, then the slain and wounded will arise, and all will meet together under the two flags, all sound and well, and there will be talking and laughter and cheers, and all will say, Did it not seem real? Was it not as in the old days?"
