Folks,

It sounds like a no brainer but with all the campaigning and camaraderie on the field - there can be an increase for skin cancer.

This came home to roost after I had some pain in my upper left arm on the way home by cruise ship from Bermuda a number of years back. I had a nice long talk with the doctor while he cut me open and took the lowest form of skin cancer out of me. Nice stitches and you really have to look to find it.

And that is just it. Look and if something does not look or feel right on your body - have it checked out. I go every year and I remember my first visit when an old and gnarled guy said to me: "Do it every year and don't make my mistake"

I love the sun and sitting and being out in it during reenactments and ocean cruises. It's the easiest to spot but can be very deadly and so all y'all out there: NO PROCRASTING about it.

As for those "killer" ticks that make you sick when you eat meat - that's another kettle of fish.

From a patient of multiple skin cancer surgeries, I must say it is difficult for a life long Southerner to avoid the sunlight. Or even reduce the exposure.

It is what it is; especially for athletes, hunters and fishermen, etc.

[An observation by experience and not intended to take away from the importance of the issue]
