Robert E. Lee and Joseph E. Johnston Cabinet Card. Measuring 4.25" x 6.5", the two leading generals of the Confederate Army are seen sitting at a table in this wet plate albumen. Johnston appears at left and Lee on the right. The photograph was taken in Savannah, Georgia, sometime in the spring of 1870 at the photograph studio of D. Ryan. Lee, whose health was failing, was on a tour of the South when he visited Johnston, the first time the two men had seen each other since the war. Johnston, who was living in Savannah at the time, was working in insurance. Lee died in October of that same year.

Waiting for the sunset.
The sounds of the city,
Sifting through trees,
Settle like dust
On the shoulders
Of the old friends..."
