I did another colorization today. What do you guys think of it?
Here's the before and after. I tried to get rid of the dust and scratches as much as possible. But in the end I got bored and I left the last bit...

Better?

Got the eyes good this time and the white stars on his shoulders.

 That helps a lot. When I was getting started I found the biggest thing was to do the research. While it looked good anyway as it was, it will bug people that know the difference and since your audience is the Civil War community they will appreciate the effort.

One note on the cleanup and restoration you did. Not sure what tool you are using but if it is Photoshop you can select the white dots that are specks on his uniform and use the filter option for Noise, Dust and Scratches. I usually set it for about 3 over 14 then highlight a large patch (not the entire image) and apply the filter. You can fix those remaining dots in 1-2 minutes.

BTW, if you apply the same thing to the entire image it will blur some of the sharp detail lines in the rest of your image, so better so apply selectively.

Thanks for the tip, I will try that

If I'm correct, you're the first Nederlander on the board. I won't comment on the colorization because I couldn't pretend to be as good as you are -- even if I tried, which I won't because I'm an idiot.
