Unfortunately, Gen.Imboden and the Northwestern Virginia Brigade, are often categorized erroneously. Often because of limited knowledge concerning its organization and intended role it is sometimes judged as ineffective. The brigade was independent in a sense, Imboden received ordersI'm really enjoying the discussion and book recommendations regarding General Imboden. I always thought he had a very tough job withdrawing the wagons and troops from Gettysburg , and he did a pretty good job (IMHO, of course). I admire him for that. I wouldn't want that stress

and reported directly to Gen.Lee. Not really sure if there was any unit comparable in the ANV. The limited role played by the brigade appeared to be by design, sometimes exceeding its intended use.
Although not as well known as many other units, it is no less interesting when put in its proper context.
