Over the past year or so I have been gathering resources for a potential book length project on the 1861 Western Virginia Campaigns. Thus far I have compiled a respectable number of primary and secondary source materials including , but not limited to, regimental histories, some local histories, newspaper accounts, and memoirs of some of the more prominent participants. While I consider myself to be a good researcher I realize that it is nearly impossible to be as thorough as I would like on my own. So I would like to ask the researchers and writers here for any advice on uncovering more elusive sources such as unpublished memoirs, battle reports, journals, and so forth. Even just a nudge in the right direction would be greatly helpful. I am considering contacting battlefield management and historical societies for the areas in question for information and potential leads. Please forgive the rambling nature of this post as it was kind of a spur of the moment thing. Also, mods if I am posting in the wrong forum please direct my thread to the proper location. Thanks in advance for anyone willing to assist!
