There apparently was a UbiSoft game series from the early 00s about Jesse James, where you go around killing banditos and desperadoes. I wonder if anybody else has played these, and if they're worth playing.

Here's gameplay for the curious:

The real Jessy James never shot anybody who was not either unarmed or helpless. That sounds like an excellent policy to me, but shooting bank clerks doesn't sound like much of a game.
Uh... what about that bank clerk?
There´s a Wii Switch game called ¨Call of Juarez¨ that takes the motivating notions of CoD and translates it to a spaghetti western setting. The firearms act very realistically, though.

Jesse James made a sensible point of not committing crimes in Tennessee. The house where his wife & children lived is still in the Edgefield section of Nashville. Via his mother we have a common Cole grandparent. When I asked grandad about that he replied, "He was a thief & a murderer, we don't talk about him."

So, I have a more than usual reason to study Jesse James. An authentic game would involve him shooting helpless bank clerks… no glorification, just sad.

I get what you mean, but Westerns (and film) have been glorifying bad guys forever. The list of Pancho Villa movies is endless. Even fan-fav Josey Wales is a sympathetic portrayal of a Quantrill guerrilla. I don't really care because they aren't supposed to be historical epics in a Ted Turner sense. The same with the video game--it's not really Jesse James.

Thanx for your comment. I had just had a long talk with a retired col. He used Ukrainian drone imagery to illustrate his points. He says that his Afghan / Iraq battles might as well have been in the Civil War. Tactics have changed out of recognition.

Anyways, after watching what looked exactly like video games with real people as targets…

I agree wholeheartedly with cousin Jesse's tactic… Northfield MN is an example of what happens when someone starts shooting at people who can shoot back, unlike the bank teller.

Actually in regards to this forum, he likely killed several Union soldiers, is generally credited with killing AVE Johnston

If wish to confine actions to post war, reconstruction forum be more appropriate. As it appears rules have changed at some point.

Yes, please no arguing about JJ"s actions! This is just about vidgames!

I wasn't arguing, merely correcting, unless someone can provide the bank tellers shot during the war. I know of none. This forum is American Civil War.

He is credited with killing Major A.V.E. Johnston however. As well unnamed soldiers during the pursuit. It does seem the Union soldiers were armed, they had fired a volley. And had come to guerrilla camp seeking a fight, a case where they should used more caution in what they seeked.

Was not to you, just a general announcement. No hard fellings:)

I think I remember the line where Josey Wales meets the guerrillas and the leader says to him, "My name is Anderson, they call me bloody Bill." If my memory hasn't failed (this time at least) he then became part of that group as opposed to Quantrill's outfit.

He could be considered part of Quantrill's outfit loosely, there really wasn't much a defined command structure.

They merged and separated during the war. As well the men in them.
