1. Anderson shook the hands of the messengers and, "If we do not meet again in this world, I hope we may meet in the better one."
2. There was some conflict among Lincoln, Scott and the cabinet regarding the entire attempt to relieve Ft. Sumter. … the absence of the Powhatan (sent to Ft. Pickens) handicapped their ability to assist Anderson. The U.S. steamship Baltic, under Gustavus Fox, the U.S.S. Pawnee, under Commander Rowan, and Harriet Lane, Captain Faunce, USRM, arrived off Charleston to reinforce Fort Sumter on April 12th. Fox said, "war had com¬menced" and he was unable to carry out his mission. In addition, a gale kept the fleet scattered and prevented him from launching supply boats
3. Louis T. Wigfall, former Texas senator and father of Louise.
4. Evacuated at noon on April 14th, 1861
5. Stephen A. Douglas

1. Upon being informed by James Chestnut on behalf of General Beauregard, that batteries would open fire in one hour, Major Anderson pulled out his pocket watch, noting the time as 3:20 and replied "I understand you, sir, then, that your batteries will open in an hour from this time?"

He then escorted the S. Carolina/Confederate messengers to their boat, shook their hands and expressed the wish that they would meet again in a better world.

He then returned to the fort and told his command to expect an attack shortly, but as they would not return fire till daylight, that they should get some sleep.

He ordered someone to raise the American (storm) flag.

2. Fox and Rowan are still hoping the Powhatan will arrive, if it does not they plan to use small boats to make a landing, but the seas are too heavy to use the small boats.

3. Louis Trezevant Wigfall

4. April 14, 1861, between 4 and 4:30 P. M.

5. Stephen Arnold Douglas

1. He shook the hands of the messengers and told them, "If we do not meet again in this world, I hope we may meet in the better one."

Well when it rains it pours. In the last week I've taken on a big new project at work and 2 big volunteer projects for the local parks. Add in the Spring yardwork that needs to be done, and I just don't have time for the trivia game anymore. Thanks, Lee, for all the great questions and to all the players for the fun competition. I'll be watching the games with interest and hope to jump back in when things slow down around here some.

Happy St. Patty's Day, everyone, and good luck with the game!
