1. Buchanan's refusal to order Anderson to abandon Fort Sumter (after shipping arms south from the Allegheny arsenal and the Indian bond scandal got him in hot water)
2. Major general in the Provisional Army of Virginia, then Brig. Gen. CSA
3. Feb. 11, 1861
4. Simon Cameron
5. Alexander Stephens

1. In his letter of resignation to President Buchanan, Floyd makes it claer that his resignation is due to Buchanan's refusal of Floyd's demand that Major Anderson and his command be withdrawn fron Charleston Harbor.

2. His next endevor was to defend himself in federal court on charges of conspiracy and treason for which he was indicted on January 27, 1861. Perhaps more significantly (wondering about the scope of the question), he subsequently became a Confederate general: Major General of the Provisional Army of Virginia on April 27, 1861; Major General of the Virgina Militia on May 17, 1861; Brigadier General CSA on May 23, 1861.

3. February 11, 1861

4. Simon Cameron

5. Alexander Hamilton Stephens
