Walked home on foot and named for Baron DeKalb of which DeKalb County was named. Decatur could have been the next Atlanta bt the citizens did not want a railroad that would bring strangers and start fires. Technically Atlanta was part of DeKalb in 1847 until Fulton County was formed in 1850.
