What is this? Fuse adapter??

Found this in the Union lines. Believe it's lead. Any ideas? Thought a fuse adapter but all I can read about it wooden ones.!?

That sure looks like there were tic marks, letters or numbers on that wider end to me. A fuse adapter sounds like a good first guess; but I know zero about such things.
 
It certainly appears to be either a lead or zinc fuse adapter. My concerns would be as both these metals are very soft, if they were a drive in fuse adapter; then the top would tend to be distorted by the hammer blows. A very interesting find however.
