Ft. Fisher ?

I noticed this sort of looks like Fisher. It seems like the general form of Fisher.
Is it really Fort Fisher ? Or is it another fort

is this man a Marine, or an early soldier from '61 ?

Notice that the cannon has been painted a sand color to camouflage its location.
 
Appears to be a quite youthful gentleman... My first impression is most likely a student at a Military Academy school...
That makes sense, he is young and I do realise that several schools had the criss sross, what are those called again.
Also that they were white. VMI did it early in the war.

You can also see the adjacent gun has the muzzle shot off.
In the first attack on Ft Fisher, the fleet just relentlessly bombarded the fort itself which, due to the forts design did little but kick up some dirt and sand.
On the second attack, the fleet concentrated their fire on single gun positions until it was knocked out of commission, then they would move on to the next gun...and so on and so on till the fort slowly lost it's firepower.
