I've read articles about Civil War Soldiers, especially Southern boys, that all some had to endure the winter was maybe a blanket and at time, no shoes. Did Doctors know about frostbite and how to treat it?

Wonder how many soldiers both north and south were killed from exposure to not only the extreme cold, but also extreme heat.
