Fried Delights Fried Apples

Ingredients:

apples​

thin slices of breakfast bacon​

Instructions:

Slice apples without peeling, cut and fry some thin slices of breakfast bacon until thoroughly done, remove the slices from the vessel, adding water to the gravy left. Put in apples and fry until done, sweetening to taste. Mrs. G. B.​

Because we just went apple picking with the grandkids last weekend, I was looking for a recipe that was like the one my mom and grandmother used and this is the closest I think.

To the best of my memory they would use leftover bacon grease - a tablespoon or two depending on the number of unpeeled apple slices, sprinkle on some brown sugar, and fry it all until the apples were tender. It was delicious. Hope the grandkids think so too.

We like the tart ones - Granny Smith is always good. With the brown sugar you get a sweet/sour thing going.

I was thinking McIntosh or Granny Smith.

Peeled and slice apples
butter
cinnamon
sugar (we used brown)

You want an apple that will retain its shape when cooked (Not MacIntosh, they fall apart), sliced, unpeeled. Sugar, butter a pinch of salt. As my great grandpa used to say in family lore, "Scorch 'em a little." I like to serve them for a winter dinner with sausage and fried eggs.
