How would one unload muzzle loaders, as stated in the article?
They would have used a "worm ". It's a corkscrew looking thing that you screw onto the back end of your ramrod and then you run it down the barrel and twist and pull out the bullet.

I thought as much. Did every soldier have a worm or maybe one of ten or so.
 
That I'm not sure about. I think it was an issued item and then theres something called a sargents tool which loosely resembled a swiss army knife . It had a small screwdriver and worm and a couple of other implements I can't remember off the top of my head.
