Saw this photo in the Museum at Mansfield Battlefield State Park today. Never saw it before. Sorry about posting a picture of a picture.

As noted by chubachus above, this was taken in the Eastern theater; they probably just used the photo for an example of a CW burial. I would post the links to the images on LoC, but the sites currently down due to maintenance.

There's a great analysis of one of the photographs here: http://john-banks.blogspot.com/2014/04/history-revealed-sgt-harvey-tuckers.html

According to that article, it was taken by Mathew Brady on May 19 or 20, 1864 in Fredericksburg, Va. They are burying dead from the battles of the Overland Campaign.

Do you have anything on where the 2nd Texas Cavalry was during this battle?
Just to note, there were two 2nd Texas Cavalry regiments - the 2nd Texas Mounted Rifles (aka 2nd Texas Cavalry) and the 2nd Texas Cavalry, Arizona Brigade. There was also the 2nd Texas Partisan Rangers. Only the latter two served in the Red River Campaign, both in Col. Walter P. Lane's Brigade.

The title of the post was edited for accuracy. Credit to the members above for pointing out the error.

2nd Texas Cavalry, Arizona Brigade is what I'm looking for.

As the CWTrust map shows, they were on the far Confederate left and made their charge dismounted on foot. After they turned back the Federal cavalry to their front they began flanking the regiments to their right. A large portion of those Federal regiments surrendered in mass, as they were being pushed from the front and almost surrounded by Green's cavalrymen from the right and back.

Tom Green's Cavalry Corps also acted as the rear guard of Taylor's army on the way to Mansfield, successfully skirmishing with and slowing Banks' force, which allowed Taylor more time to position his army for battle.
