Thanks. My TN Unionst ancestors served with the 1st TN Infantry. Commanded early on by James Gallant Spears. Spears was court marshaled after the Emancipation Proclamation for his opposition and calling Lincoln some unpleasant names. I had read that Col. Frank Lane Wolford of the 1st KY USA was also court marshaled for his opposition and calling Lincoln corrupt and a a tyrant. Your article said he later got a pension. I would like to read a book on that. Col. Robert King Byrd, the man my relatives followed into the 1st TN Infantry USA was also a slave owner...but he was smart enough to keep his mouth shut and keep his command in the Union Army.
