That is NOT just "a flag of the ANV" - it's Robert E. Lee's Headquarters flag! It flew outside his tent, identifying where the commanding general could be found.

I'm so glad someone finally cleared that one up for me! All I can say is there were a mighty lot of flags and we took quite a few photos. This did not seem to have an 'identifier', so I'm actually delighted that I have a photo of Robert E. Lee's Headquarters flag. I had no idea. I also have one of Ulysses S. Grant's Headquarters flag. Last time I posted it, it posted sideways, so I'm not going to try again right now.
This is the battle flag and first national used in the opening scenes of "Dances with Wolves". This battle flag was hand-made by my old pard' who passed away over a decade ago, Oz N. I still have the flag, with the colored hairspray used to make the flag look older by TIG productions, on a flagstaff in my "war-room". This photo was taken on location by TIG about 20 miles east of Pierre, SD. For the record, TIG painted everything, including the leaves on the trees in the background. Incidentally, I am wearing the light grey hat standing "underneath" the first national. I believe this is the first scene where Costner does his "death" ride and nary a rebel can score
a hit!
Thought I would post one from Vicksburg for the guys preparing to meet there for the CWT Tour.
I forgot which monument this is. @Championhilz can answer that.
