GGGrandfather Mitchell LaBute . A Canadian , he joined the 39th NY . Buried in Bad Axe , Michigan. Curiously he was also known as Michel Legue . I found an article from the 1920s about a GAR meeting that lists him as "Michel Legue ( Mitchell LaBute)."

I was out-of-pocket yesterday (Friday) attending my favorite HUGE monthly flea market at Canton, Texas, so missed this thread! My late contribution will be one I've posted previously but is still a favorite because of how it all came about: I purchased the tintype below at another flea market many years ago and when I disassembled the case found the name D. C. Yakey inside. The name was unusual enough that I was easily able to find him in the NPS online roster of Civil War veterans in the 25th Wisconsin Vol. Inf. as a corporal and later sergeant. According to other information I found, the 25th saw service at Vicksburg, in the Atlanta Campaign, and Sherman's March through Georgia and the Carolinas.

When I told my friend Mike (@mkyzzzrdet) who lives in a suburb of Minneapolis about my find he suggested we go "visit' Yakey who he had found on Find-A-Grave during my next visit. In January, 2013 I made a winter visit to Minnesota and on a nice sunny day we drove over into Wisconsin and found Sergeant Yakey in the little but well-kept country Salem Church Cemetery about 25 mi. ESE of La Crosse seen here. (I have since added my photo of him to his Find-A-Grave entry.)

Confederate Private James Hagan Morrow Company B 19th Tennessee Infantry.

His second wife was my 3 x 1st cousin, Lucy Caroline Land.

James was buried alongside his 1st wife, Rebecca Carson.

Lucy is buried near several relatives including her mother in another cemetery.

I'm not related but Lt. Gregory is at the cemetery where I volunteer. He served as a carpenter on the armor-plated gunboat Cincinnati during the capture of Ft. Henry and on a mortar boat at Plum Point. He also served on three other small "tinclad" steamers that were part of the Mississippi naval squadron. He was from Canada. He's mentioned several times in Admiral Porter's Naval History of the Civil War.
