How many soldiers were garrisoned at Fort Monroe at the time of the attack on Fort Sumter?

What reinforcements were sent following Virginia's secession? How quickly did they arrive?

Did Virginia miss a chance to capture the fort in the immediate aftermath of Fort Sumter and Virginia's secession?

If the Confederates had somehow captured the fort in April 1861, how does this change the course of the war? Is the idea of a Peninsular Campaign a non-starter with Confederate control of Fort Monroe?

After being fooled by William Mahone's deception using the railroad, Union forces withdrew from Norfolk Naval Shipyard to Fort Monroe. I am unsure of numbers.

Cheers,
USS ALASKA
